Hi,

I recently moved into a new flat and got my very small kitchen refitted. Unfortunately the new hob extractor had to be removed and replaced. After the old one was removed the rawlplug / screw had to be removed as it was too loose, there has also been previous screw holes close by. In removing the old rawlplugs plaster has come loose and there is now a 50p size hole about 3/4in deep with screwholes deeper still.

The fixings for the new extractor means a screw will have to go here.

Whats the best filler to use? I've got plaster or should I get deep fill polyfilla? or something else?

Once its dry will it be able to cope with the load?

Your fixings have to go into the substrate (brick or block). Fill it by all means but don't expect it to carry a load.

as joe says you cannot guarantee any fixing purely in the plaster
remove the plug take note of depth beneath the surface fill hole

drill new hole 6mm deeper than previous hole knock a wall plug without a collar flush [collar no more than a mm or so bigger than the plug]
insert a full length screw into plug 1 turn knock the plug firmly home then tighten

resin filler - push it all the way in. insert a long screw before it hardens.
