Drilling timber post to brick wall

Hi all.

I am bolting a 150mm x 150mm (6'') timber gate post to a brick wall (my house).

What masonry drill size would be most suitable for this job?
And also what size anchor bolt would I need?

You'll need quite a hefty fixing for this one......say 12mm.
You can drill a counterbore hole first if you need the fixing head to vanish.
