Dripping Flue

Wasn't sure where to post this so appologises if in wrong place.

We have water dripping from a flue in our living room for the last 2 weeks. A gas fire was removed and the wall plastered with a hole left for ventilation about 6 years ago. We have investigated the loft and have discovered a metal flue going up to the roof. No pipes are on that side of our house.

We live in a 1970s terrace one side is a 92 year old lady and the other side a hermit with boarded up windows and no central heating.

We want to call someone in to look at it but are clueless which professional to call.

Does the offending chimney have a cowl on it, or has it been capped?

it isn't a real chimney as such just a flue if it makes sense

It wasn't raining when the dripping started

OK if its a flue then it must be exiting the building somehow.....
many houses like yours didn't have a visible chimney but a ridge tile that was slightly higher than the others. This would have slots in to let the fumes out. I guess its been blown off in the wind?

There are 5 houses in the terrace the end house and ours have the tiles you have described but the others in the terrace do not may be they didn't have gas fires fitted.

I think we will start with a roofer to see if there is a problem on a visual inspection everything seems ok from the ground. Also it hadn't rained for a while when the dripping started.

Yep that would be a good idea I think. I'm fairly certain this venting tile will have bits missing, letting water in.
You could trace the flue route down through your loft, but I doubt you'd find anything......not even a hermit!

Probably just condensation, vent at top may be obstructed.
