Dripping guttering - Can I fix a door canopy?

Hello,

Even though we recently had all our guttering fixed, we still have drips coming from the guttering directly above our front door. Poor visitors and delivery people get drenched when it's raining!

Our front door goes directly onto the street. Are we allowed to fix a canopy?

Sorry, I thought I'd explain a bit better. It's not the guttering per se which is dripping. It's brand new guttering, but we think the pitch of the roof is such, that the guttering overflows in heavy rain. I've added another pic to show the roof.

If you got me to repair guttering with a drip above a door I'd move the joint from above doorway.
Why would you not do that!
It's going to drip again.

Next i would replace rubber and often it's just easier to replace the fitting.
It's something I'm going to do on my own house even though I cleaned the rubbers back in October they still drip. New rubber or fitting required. Christmas holiday job.

Contact local building control. Probably only by email these days as they stopped the phone helpline.
Guess it became a pain.

Probably ok to fit one but I don't make the rules as yours hangs over public right of way

Since your gutters (and your neighbours' gutters) already overhang the public path I'd be surprised if a canopy with a similar overhang would be refused permission. But your visitors could then be subject to drips off the canopy!

Fix the cause, not the symptom. Get whoever installed the guttering back, to fix it properly, so it doesn't drip.

You can try changing the connector and rubber seals checking that the two gutter ends butt up to the marks. Even a slight misalignment of gutters can drip, so if this doesn’t work, replace with a single length if practical

Over the door, might be a low part of the gutter, which is simply overflowing, when it rains.

For a canopy, you will need a "licence to oversail the highway" from the council's highway department. There will be a fee to consider it and an even bigger fee if they grant a licence.

You will also need planning permission. Again another fee.

And ironically, how you deal with rainwater run off from the canopy will be a big factor.

Good question. I shall have to investigate further during the next downpour. All I know is, I overheard one of the door fitters complain that it felt like he'd had a bucket of water poured over him

Just fix the guttering.
