Driveway gate timber frame

Hi

I am building my driveway gate and currently building the timber frame.

In the INSIDE corner of the frame, I am using 90degree corner brackets.

What should I use on the OUTER part of the 90degree corner on the frame (where the horizontal part meets the vertical part.

Would nails do the job?

me thinks a halving or a mortice and tenon joint would be better.
