I'm supposed to be have a blockpaved driveway installed next week. It didn't cross my mind that I might need planning permission. 5.5mx5.5m standard block paving with aco drains . Does it sound like I might need permision ? I've messaged the driveway company but not had a reply yet

If it is more than 5 sq metres it needs to be permeable paving, if the paving drains via the aco into a soakaway that may be acceptable to the planners.

I'd be checking with your local authority asap. They will make you pull it up otherwise.

You're fine then, though you should check they're going to actually drain the aco into a soakaway as many driveway installers don't, they just leave it to drain into the earth at the end of the aco. Then the garden can get waterlogged or you can get issues with high water elsewhere.

What about if its draining into the drain for the the gutter downpipe?

Well strictly speaking that would require the water company's permission but stops your garden flooding, a bodge that saves them building a soakaway and saves you a few quid. But you take all the risk as the homeowner of course.

I'll ask them on Monday where the drain I actually going. It wasnt something I thought of asking
