Drone Novice

I think current drones built/sold before the new regs come in force are exempt from having a remote ID until 2028

So, for instance - that RG601 Max, after 2028, would need to be fitted with a remote ID. Remote ID, I guess that's an ID transmitter? Is this something which can be simply added later?

Only need 30 out of 40 and I got 36. Apparently if you don't pass, you can take it again and again until you do!

I only managed 33 out of 40, but to be fair - I didn't bother reading, or even checking the CAA rules, before or during the test. Easy, peasy!

Be Aware - If you do the test, and pass, you must then go straight on, to take out and pay for your Flyer ID & Operator ID, otherwise your 'pass' status will be lost. You would then have to do, and pass the test yet again. I had intended to do the test, then later, when I needed it, pay up.

I gave up trying to fly a drone. Ruddy things are just too fiddly for my paws!!!!

I've been test flying it, indoors, trying to get the feel of it, and had it survive a couple of minor collisions. I tried it, for the first time, outdoors this morning, in the middle of a farm field, but quite briefly, and at just a few feet off the ground. I tested the return to home button, and was quite surprised/worried that it shot up to a height, and lingered there, before eventually coming back down, landing precisely where it had taken off from. It took me a while, to work out that this was probably normal behaviour for the home button - It would need to rise to an altitude, to clear any potential obstructions, before making any horizontal moves, then finally coming vertically down over it's takeoff location. Is that how the behave?

Yes. On mine, and I suspect most others, you set the RTH height. I have mine set at 40 metres. Obviously if you lost contact with it behind buildings or trees, it automatically returns to home but it wouldn’t be a lot of good if it flew straight home without going up first!
