The only time I have actually seen it is in offices that have under floor plug in busbar trunking, and proper 'distribution boxes' which has a 5A 20mm glass fuse per 4 gamg lead.

We are forever getting called out to replace these fuses when the muppet cleaners plug their vacuums into the multi way IT sockets tucked away under the desks, instead of the easy to get to, plentyful supply of clearly marked 'cleaners sockets'

As other NIC/ISO9000 contractors will tell you, part of the approval process is having and understanding the relevant BS documents for the categories of work the company undertakes. So all other NIC companies that are listed to carry out office installations will have a copy of 6396 and will follow it as they do with 7671, 5266, EN50346 etc etc.

So the answer to your question is - Yes we do

Ah, I can see where you're coming from now

If you google BS 6396 you will find loads of desk electrical systems that are used in office furniture most of which are normally installed by an electrical contractor. So sometimes the installation ends at the socket other times it includes the desk furniture.

The other point to note is that we have a legal obligation to supply operating and maintenance manuals with every installation. Under the operating section there would be a reference to 6396 if the installation was high integrity earthed, even if the contract excluded wiring the furniture. So assuming the customer reads the manuals they would know how to use their new electrical installation.
