Gents,

Most dualtech sensors that I have seen have an associated range..... eg the Pyronix equinox came in both 15m & 10m versions.

Now, if the room is say, 12m, then it seems obvious to use the 15m device ... but what about the other way around... what is the downside of using, say, a 15m device in a room that is only 8m instead of using the 10m version?

Turn the microwave range down to fit the room size. :D

The microwave part of a dualtech should be set slightly smaller than the area it covers.

The downside is negligible with most microwave based dual tech detectors due to the fact that pretty much all of them come with an adjustable microwave range. Depending on the model, this can set the microwave range from off to around 25% of the total coverage distance at it's minimum setting.

The advertised range in meters (ie 15 meters) is generally to show the maximum coverage, not the minimum, so you would go for the 10m version unless you need to cover a greater distance.

You will need to adjust the range of the microwave part of the sensor or it will 'see' through the wall. The infra red however wont.

Even if you over adjust the sensor, both the items need to activate before an alarm condition is sent.
There will be 3 indicators on a Dual Tech normally. Walk test and see what is the better coverage for your needs.
