Should work ok at the angle shown, providing the float is free to move vertically. Is there presently any problem with the fill?
No it filled well.

To remove the head you turn it through 90 degrees so as it can`t turn that much I would say a) Yes you will be alright and b) There is no need to spend money replacing it as suggested.
