shoite. Painting the lounge (big area) with a shade just slightly lighter than what's on the walls already (ie soft apricot over a slightly darker apricot). Dulux silk over matt (or at most, over a very subtle sheen). Two coats and not spread out too much and I can STILL see darker patches.

So as a test I painted a wall with white matt first, let it dry then applied a coat of the new paint. I can see pale patches now! it must be my technique. using a big brush and not spreading it out very far.

Any ideas?!? Am I the only one with this type of issue?

Would matt cover any better than silk?

Sooty walls from gas or open fire?
Soft apricot is usually an easy covering colour in my experience.

white base might need two coats if you 'scrubbed' it using a brush.. On a large wall a roller might do better.

Hope this helps..
