This may be a daft question but I'd rather ask than find out the hard way. Am I likely to run into any trouble painting the undersides of some shelves with Dulux satinwood? Am I to expect a lot of dripping? I've used it on plenty of vertical surfaces (doors, skirting etc.) but never something that is essentially upside down. I can't remove the shelves because they're built into alcoves. I'm not looking for an alternative product.

Just apply the paint thinly and make sure it's been sanded well beforehand to provide a decent key.

I did the underside of some shelves this week with Satinwood and it was fine. The only thing to watch for is edges where paint could gather and drip, as this did happen to me.

The shelves have some large holes in the backs of a couple of them, and I didn't keep a good enough eye on them when I painted, so they accumulated too much paint and dripped. If yours are just flat normal shelves, go for it in the usual way and you'll be fine.
