Hi all.. anybody used Dulux weathershied lately...

got a customer who has brought it and wondered what its like to apply?

Well the primer is easy, its just like water but coloured blue. Goes on ok but why they made it blue i dont know.

Undercoat is a bit thicker than normal undercoat. Again goes on quite easy but tends to get a skin on it warm days if not stired frequently.

Gloss, again slightly thicker than normal gloss. Doesn't cover as well as normal gloss, goes off quite quickly. Personally i find it clogs up your brush after a while so i tend to clean mine now and again while doing the work.

Sorry having a brainstorm when i wrote that post........

what i meant to say was anyone used Dulux weathershield MASONARY PAINT.. Sorry

As it happens, I was using it at the weekend (to paint concrete fenceposts and gravel boards, and some dwarf walls dark brown, to blend in with a fence).

It is pretty thick. Straight from the can it was like a non-drip. The priming coat is thinned 20% with water, and will be pretty patchy if the grounds suction varies (mine did). I found it an advantage to go over missed or thin bits with a second thinned coat, it is much faster than using the thick paint on an absorbent surface. It was very hot on Sunday and either this, or insufficient stirring, led to my kettle going thick before I had used it up. The decorator centre had common whitish colours at half list price, I had to pay full whack for colour mixed "conker" as it is not one of this year's colours

Topcoats go on fairly easy once the wall has been primed.

The can claims it will give 15 years protection, I have my doubts. Looking at some i did 10 years ago (this was with Sandex though) it has lasted well on the vertical surfaces, but on the tops of the posts it has weathered away. It also goes dull with age, and possibly a little paler.

Oh yes "Third eye" im not that perfect...........unlike some that think that they are!

Thanks for the constructive and helpfull input John D.
