So here I am uncovering a major exploitation of the DVLA HGV medical an exposing a scam of the century and through me I will probably revamp the whole system. You do not fail someone who is as fit as a fiddle and expect to get away with it. Only two weeks ago I had a full eye examination and was deemed perfect vision, I only wear glasses for reading and nothing else. Yet I went to a privately run drivers medical company and ran by foreigners I might add and am totally furious that they could even suggest that my eyes are not up to standard. I will update the findings of a real optician after my appointment on Monday. This will then prove the whole thing was a scam. You don't fail someone at the pinnacle of health and a specimen like me and get away with it. You just don't.
Online specs are becoming the norm now. I just want to pay a fair fee for an eye test and leave. But the opticians are still basing their business model on what happened 20 years ago, they provide a test for cost or below then rely on making money from flogging you glasses.Or you could say it's a carefully organised successful business model designed to maximum profits
I find it embarrassing when they start with their script. The shop staff meet you at the door of the test, then the script says "The optician has recommended you buy new distance glasses" or whatever. I make my excuses, demand the bill and bugger off.
They need to adjust their business model to the new world - perhaps charge more for an eye test but make it half price if you buy specs or something. I cringe every time when they start their sales pitch, it makes what should be a simple task into an annoyance.

Note I'm not saying you're wrong they're right, I'm just referring to their business model and profitability.

There are always bums on waiting room seats at our Specsavers.
At the moment optician shops are fleecing the remaining offline customers, those who still think everything online is dodgy or actually believe that they somehow make them specially for you after meeting you in person - they don't, they send the numbers to the place that actually makes them, just as you do if ordering online.
They've increased their profits by raising their prices, taking more from those who don't know better. But they'll all either get old and die or wise up.
Here's a summary of my recent order from glasses direct...
A chunk of the cost was the premium lenses. Honestly I wouldn't bother in future, I'd get the £15 less expensive Silver-grade ones I normally get, as I can't tell the difference. But I still paid £51.50 per pair, delivered, after a free home trial of the frames I thought might be OK.
They've increased their profits by raising their prices, taking more from those who don't know better. But they'll all either get old and die or wise up.
