I am replacing some carbon brushes for a Dyson vacuum and when the motor runs a lot of sparks are visible and they continue if when the motor is running for a while. I believe there is a danger of the thing catching fire.

Anyone know what the cause is. In the meantime I have ordered a replacement motor.

Thanks

If the brushes wear all the way down the commutator can get damaged 'quite common especially in small motors'.

Was the commutator cleaned as well before fitting the new brushes, some arcing is usual when new brushes are fitted as they bed in but it should stop fairly quickly.
