Interestingly I've recently discovered that I'm not obliged to fit a steamer in commercial premises. I think I need to read more. Anyway does anyone know if it's still necessary to bond the pipework of a combi in commercial premises or are the rules different in this area as well?

A sparky recently told me that it isn't necessary to cross bond all the pipes under a combi any more. Rather than me say what I think the reg is now, just NB it has changed and needs checking!!

One thing I learned on my part p course was that sparkies are full of sh1t. Check with a training organisation, every sparkie I have ever asked these questions of prior to getting qualified has given a different answer.

What I was tought only 6 months ago is bond extraneous metal parts in boiler location and take it back to MEB or if that is not practical you can take it back to the double pole fused switched connection unit.

I love it when the customer has their own sparks, they usually bond just a couple of the pipes in the boiler location and don't take them to anything, and many never seem to manage to get within .6 of a gas meter. they've been the lasiest bunch of *******s I've ever come across in this town, be honest, we were going through gas meter bonding stickers like wildfire before part p.

I believe you don't have to bond sinks any more - downright bloody dangerous that seems to me!

Especially since you can have a power point to plug your kettle into within 300mm of the sink.

Our rules are no better, you can't run a gas pipe in a cavity wall other than passing through, unless it's to serve an ilfe when saftey is no longer an issue, but looks.

I work under the premise

if its metal bond the *******, balls to the regs

The sparky who wires up my installations who i believe to be very clued up will allways bond all pipework around the boiler but only cross bonding. if the gas is bonded at the meter he checks it at the boiler & also the water main if all copper to avoid running back to the MEB .But gota say working on different sites shows a great deal different understanding of the new regs.

A friend just sent me a picture of a BG installation in his kitchen, just installed. Instead of taking pipes up back of boiler he took them to the side, no way you can make that look good with boxing. But also, the pipes are not bonded. Not only is it a boiler location but iut is also a special location under part p.

I didn't ask him what the job cost. He has asked me to relocate the boiler to the airing cupboard, some people have more money than sense or else no money and no sense, but for some reason they believe the BG salesman and then get this sort of thing dumped on them yet at 1.5k more than someone like me would charge.

Know a BG installer. They have there own in house sparkys. u cant expect them to wire it any better than BG install it. The installer i know was a steel pipe fitter ,got a job at BG & was installing combi systems within 6 months.
