Hi Guys/Gals

Here's a quickie for you ... (sorry its probably been answered a zillion times already)

I'm using a twin and earth to connect up to a light switch using a plastic back box

What do I do with the earth ?

Connect it up at the ceiling rose
And chop it off at the light switch ?

Answers on a postcard please

Good evening to you all

steve

Keep the cpc / earth wire DO NOT cut it.

If ever you change to metal plate switches they must have the earth. Best thing is to over sleeve it with grn / yellow and simply fold it so the conductor is shrouded.

For the earth to have a future function it needs to be terminated at the ceiling rose, or terminal blocks that carry the main LNE feeds for the circuit. There is no harm in having light switch earths correctly wired even if as a lay person you see no function for it given the plastic switch / plastic b/ box situation.

Terminate into a connector block inside the plastic box, regs demand that any CPC must be connected to earth and any unused conductor also, regardless of the present usage configuration.

I've had to rewire places because of cut-back CPC's for similar reasons.

OK thanks guys - I'll sleeve it and terminate with a connector block (do you mean a segment of those chocc-box things ?)

Many thanks for the replies
