ECONOMY 10 WOES

we have just moved into a flat with E10 electricity supply.

The flat has 3 Dimplex storage heaters and a hot water immersion in the cylinder. All of which are not working.

As a new homeowner; i have tried to research into E10. I conclude that the heaters and the immersion are supposed to heat up when the E10 supply is on at various times of the day. Is this correct?

We have had the hot water immersion changed as we thought it was faulty. This was done prior to finding out the heating doesn't work either!!

We tried to investigate whether it was the E10system/feed that was faulty so we purchased a voltage detector. upon testing the wires to the heaters/immersion @ E10 times; it glows-i.e. a current is running through.
The detector does not glow during non E10 times (as would be expected)

Does this mean all 3 heaters need repairing?!?!? and what is wrong with my new immersion? Since we had it replaced and a current is flowing through it- why are we not getting any hot water?

Sorry for the very inconcise posting, but i am at my wits end and am completely overwhelmed.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I very much doubt all the heaters need replacing.

Are all the heaters turned on? Which Dimplex model are they?

Usually storage heaters would be on an E7 (economy 7) tarriff.

It may be best for you to consult an electrician, instead of contemplating replacing £600+ worth of heaters.

i kno the one in the main bedroom is dimple xt12. will need to look for model numbers for others.

guess i will need to get a sparky to check it out then.................... fingers x'ed it is a small problem!

My guessing is problem with the meter/teleswitch, which belongs to EDF.

However there is a thermal cut out inside these heaters, and if people in the past have been drying clothes on them then this could have tripped, it is a 5 minute job to reset these.

do you think we should call the leccy company before consulting an electrician then?

i have looked up ways to reset the cut out on the net. will try to do this tonight....................................

If you say there is voltage at the heaters themselves, then EDFs timer must be ok.

When you test for voltage tonight remove the front panel (screws underneath) then put your volt meter on the terminals at the bottom right.

L - E = 240v
L - N = 240v
N - E = 0v

wouldn't know i'm afraid we only moved into the property on sat.................. former homeowner has done us proper------ nothin works!!
the electric shower cord went kaput last nite also.........................

Sounds like it could be a problem with a neutral, your neon screwdriver will not help you here, you need a proper multimeter (and to know how to use it safely).

hello peeps

i have reset the cutout switch to one of my storage heaters-joy!

however i have a dimplex model cxl24n which may need resetting also--- but i cannot seem to find the cut out switch= any ideas?
