Hi,

I've got an ecoTEC Plus that's showing system pressure way off the top of the scale, since I had a brain spasm and opened the filling loop when returning cold water mains to the house. The PRV went off and reduced the pressure a bit, but the pressure is still way over the red.

1) Can I let some of the pressure off? If so, where is the relevant valve?

2) Do I need to get the PRV replaced, as it suggests in the FAQ on this site?

Thanks for your help,
jim

If the PRV is now dripping it will reduce the pressure anyway. If it isn't dripping then it's OK - no need to change it.

When you heat the system up the pressure will rise slightly so you ought to release some pressure anyway. The simplest way to do this is via a radiator air vent. It will be slow but as long as you don't unscrew the vent spindle too far it is a fairly safe method for a DIYer.

Reduce the pressure by putting a hose on a drain point and letting some water out of the heating system, or open a radiator air bleed point till pressure drops,(very messy). prv will need to be replaced if it drips when the pressure is back to normal.
