Edging tool any good

The word gimmick springs to mind. Sorry. Those kind of products might work reasonably well in a new build with perfectly flat surfaces but they will be useless in a Victorian house.

As a professional decorator, I would strongly suggest purchasing a decent synthetic 3 inch brush, eg a Purdy or Wooster. Do not overload the brush with paint and use portable lighting to create a shadow line. Follow the shadow line to create your cutting in line. You will need to move the light source as you work.

Using a smaller brush is far more difficult. It holds so little paint that you end up breaking your flow to put the brush back in the tin to top up the paint.
