We are in middle of a complete rewire in our circa 1890 three bedroom Edinburgh flat. The wiring has all been chased into narrow gaps in the plasterwork and now has backing plaster covering

Is this ok when all will be RCD protected or should it be covered with metal protective plate in vulnerable places (ie nails for picture hanging etc)

thanks

Are the buried cables all in line horizontally or vertically with sockets, switches etc. or in other permitted zones?

The galv capping does not protect against penetration by nails etc... for that you would need steel conduit.

Yes it's fine as long as the wires run vertically or horizontally from sockets and switches.
They can also run along walls close to corners or ceilings if necessary.
When you're hanging pictures you're supposed to look at the whole wall and consider the possibility of wires before you start.

thanks, that's put my mind at ease. Yes, I'd say they're all horizontally or vertically. They do all seem not to be capped or in conduit but from the above replies, I imagine it's ok. I've had some other electrical work done by an independent firm and seen capping put above light switches etc, that's why this seemed of concern. Narrow channels cut for the cables looked like a possible dodge to make life a bit easier for the firm doing this job.

Capping & oval conduit is usually used on new builds to protect cables from the plasterers trowel, not so much now as most houses seem to be dry lined
