Hi,

We're looking at getting a 2 bed flat rewired. Its a first floor victorian conversion in N London.

Quotes so far are coming it at circa £4k including a full re-wire and all cables in walls, ceilings etc and all switches recessed into wall; new white plastic finish effect to all points; holes and chases to be filled with plaster etc and a new fuse board; full certification.

Areas to be re-wired are: lounge, hallway up and down, bedroom 1, 2, kitchen and bathroom to be connected wiith new cables. 5 days work in total.

Does this price seem reasonable? Other electricians have come round but failed to provide a quote so want to get the work done, but difficult to gauge what prices are like in London compared to back home in the shire!

Impossible to say without a site survey and detailed knowledge of exactly what is being quoted for.
London is always expensive, especially if there's difficult parking/access etc.

The only way to get comparative quotes is to get several quotes. Sorry if that sounds obvious, but if you have managed to get electricians to look at the job (and they haven't quoted) then my guess is that it looks to them like either the job, or the building, or something else is a PITA.

Is this one of the rich parts of N London? If so , you'll pay more

Is the house going to be empty or full of furniture? Are you going to be living there during the work? 5 days sounds very quick unless there are several blokes on the job.
