Beware you lot!

If you are applying for or renewing your EHICs, don't do it on line.

First, they charge. However, the charge is listed as £14.99, but when you complete the form-filling, you discover actually it's £19.99.

do what I did: ring the landline: it's free. Don't use the 0845 number, that'll cost you extra: dial 0191 2325371.

IT COSTS NOTHING FOR AN EHIC CARD !!

That link came by searching for 'EHIC' on the direct.gov.uk website
You have been had. I recently renewed mine for zilch.

As George Michael once said, "..if you're gonna do it, do it right, right?"

No. I haven't been ripped off, I nearly was. Just warning folk that there are lots of rip-off sites out there taking money for what could be a free service.

I went here:

http://www.e111-nhs.org/?gclid=CN2xgZ64hqoCFUFC4QodtihH0A

Fair enough at the bottom of the page, it says:

IMPORTANT: EHIC are a third party data processor and check and send service registered with the UK Data Protection Public Register (Number Z2497964) to collect and retain EHIC card applications. This website is not connected to or affiliated with the National Health Service, the Department of Health, the NHSBSA or any other official Government body. You can apply independently and free of charge for EHIC by visiting the official website. EHIC is a third-party data processor for European Health Insurance Card applications.

BUT, what does annoy, is that when you complete the form-filling, the price is not 14.99, as they say, but 19.99.

EXTRA RIP OFF!!

The moral of the story is ANYTHING to do with government departments should always be searched for on the direct.gov.uk website - not through search engines, otherwise as you have found, you could inadvertently use a third party facilitator who charges for their services - which is not illegal.
