Alright everyone, please don't judge me, I am wanting some advice as to what I can do here.. Had a builder come in to do the electrics and Looked at what he has done, and the only words came out of my mouth was "what the Fxxk"!!!!!

Can someone look at this and let me know if I am correct in saying this has been bodged and dangerously?

Before anyone judge me, why get a builder etc.. I know I have been stupid, but at this stage, I would really appreciate some professional advice and let me know what you think of this.. So please don't judge me please.

I'm not going to judge you, but you know the answer! There's not a lot of point in going through a list of things which are unacceptable or undesirable in that work, since you clearly need to get an electrician to sort it all out!

Kind Regards, John

For anyone to offer advice, you need to say what it is we are looking at and what you need/want. The first one looks like a socket has been moved? If that is the case and you can get under the floor where that original cable is, I'd chase a new channel and lay new cable and disconnect the whole box by connecting via a non maintenance junction box under the floor. I'd also cover the chased cables in at lease PVC protector and use a bonding plaster coat to bring it up to the level of the wall rather than dollops of cake icing.

There is a difference between dangerous, not complying, and not a professional standard the latter is called a warranty of skill. The work shown does not fall into the latter, however as to being dangerous that's not so easy.

We have in essence three levels of danger.
Code 1 = Danger present’. Risk of injury. Immediate remedial action required
Code 2 = ‘Potentially dangerous’. Urgent remedial action require.
Code 3 = ‘Improvement recommended’.
For this we use best-Practice-Guide-4.pdf]Best Practice Guide 4 this gives examples and what you are first looking for is the C1 code, at a quick glance I see no C1's.

Next is code 2 or C2. I am not sure if we have any code 2's either.

For code 3 there are loads from missing grommet onwards. Now not all as as bad as it seems, the missing grommet for example, when a back box has been plastered around often the cables are held secure so even with no grommet it's hard to say the cable would ever be damaged.

So read the linked PDF and try putting all the faults into C1 to C3 and see what you get as a result.

As to what to do, well Part P does not only say some work needs notifying, it also says the work should comply with BS7671 or similar standard which it does not. One thing required is an installation or minor works certificate for ALL electrical work, you could ask for the certificate as once signed he has admitted doing the work. But any court action will likely require some document so likely you would need an EICR by some independent person who has some qualifications to show the work is sub-standard. Or involve trading standards.

There is a problem with latter, once you tell the council you can't untell them, so even if builder does not correct the work, you will need to pay some one to correct it.
