Because there is a ton of insulation in the loft. Like mountains of it! So was happy to connect onto the nearest cable I found. In hindsight it could have been done that way if I spent more time rolling the stuff up. But was content with what I was doing.
There is a cupboard directly below the junction boxes. As they are there now, it will be easy for me to put a light in that cupboard
