hi i have a rented property and there is a problem with one of the plug sockets,am i allowed to check if the wires have come loose,or put a new socket on,or do i need to be a qualified electrician

Insurance reason would suggest to me that you should get a electrician in to sort it out.

Do you really want to be liable for any issues that might cause injury to a tenant?

You could do a quick check, if the problem and remedy are simple then as long as you are confident to work on such items then go for it.
If it's more than you think leave well alone.

Are you saying you own the property and rent it out, or you live in a rented property (i.e. a tenant). If you're a tenant, just contact your landlord, if you try and do anything yourself you'll probably be in breach of your contract...
