Electrician Nightmare - Wont turn up for 2nd Fix

The spark is a registered NICEIC electrician. If there is a contract between him and the OP then NICEIC can intervene if there is a dispute.
It is one of the few customer benefits from using a CPS member to do electrical works.

The only dispute the NICEIC will entertain is one of a technical nature and quality of work - They will not look at finances or anything contractural.

I still wonder why this electrician has refused to return - It just seems odd. If I didn't want to return to complete a job, there would be a very good reason.

People are strange creatures, and not all think, or act the same; some act very oddly at times.

Even though the only evidence they have is from the complainant?

It's an old scam, and you're lucky if you've never been caught by it. Briefly, the joiner has pocketed all or most of the money paid, and tells spark he hasn't been paid. But he will pay him when the dispute is settled in the mean time stay away because it could create problems and effect payment.

Used to be a favourite of a builder named after a type of bread.

thanks Notch7 - trust me theres nothing more to it, I think the only problem is that i gave them too much money post first fix.
I am looking at raising a complaint to NICEIC to see if they can give any advice.

Can anyone else give advice?

Disputes nearly always reduce down to money.

You could try googling the sparkys name to see if his number comes up and ring him direct.

There could be a multitude of reasons sadly: they are scammers, the electrician is not actually registered, theyve had a fall out, youve paid them too much so whats left doesnt cover the labour hours and materials so they cant be bothered, they underpriced the job and have bailed out while ahead, they are too busy and they cant come back and havent got the bottle to tell you.

If the electrician is registered NICEIC then he is unlikely to be a scammer / cowboy.

There's another possibility, one which I do wonder about given how frequently we hear tales of electricians unaccountably disappearing.

Seems to me you have a contract for the entire works with the company That they decide to sub out the electrics is THEIR problem, not yours. If their chosen subby does a runner, it's up to them to sort it out. Give them notice to complete the works in a reasonable period of time, and stating that if they fails to do so you will hold them in breach of contract and arrange for an electrician of YOUR choice to come in and complete the work, and look to them to recover the costs (whatever it takes to get the work fully completed and certificated/notified as needed), if necessary via the courts.
