Hi

V basic question. Just had very stark letter from Electricity Company, advising I hadn’t read the meter for ages. Been out to read it, and cupboard locked and we have no key.

Do you know where I might acquire one?

Thanks

Ask your neighbour, also available in the sheds and off of ebay

Key should have been left by previous owner/tenant or you could ask your supplier to send you one but as sparxxxx says, you can pick one up cheap enough at the likes of B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation etc.

If your careful you can open it with long nose pliers. Not necessarily your responsibility to read your meter, depends on the tariff or agreement your on. Ring them up and tell them to come and read it themselves.

The keys are normally yellow

No obligation for you to read their meter for them.
By the looks of it the meter is outside so they really have no excuse, unless the access to it is especially difficult.
Electricity companies will take liberties if you allow them.
