Electrics Dimmer Switch pull cord type

hi was wondering whether anyone could help me with some wiring for a pull switch for the bathroom. I am replacing an ordinary pull switch with a dimmer but I am not sure which cables go to which terminals.
The earth is obvious but the instructions supplied with the unit are not very good. I have one red and one black cable. On one side of the Dimmer switch I have (IN) N (Up arrow)and L(Up arrow) on the other (LOAD) I have N (Down Arrow) and a symbol diagonal uparrowwith a wavey line through (down arrow)
Any help would be appreciated and an explanation would also be informative.
