You don't want a joint buried in the wall if you can avoid it.
Is the cable in a plasic conduit? If so you have a good chance of replacing the cable.
Either replace the whole length of the cable. Or do the join in the ceiling void. Use the same size cable as before - typically 1.0 mm2 or 1.5 mm2 twin and earth. Use earth sleeving on all bare earth wires.
Or isolate the circuit and leave it to an electrician.
