cant get the pilot to stay on, changed thermcoupling but no joy, also changed over heat stat because it looked damaged still no joy any ideas?? :(

if it is the gas valve you may be out of luck, I have not be able to lay my hand on one since NPOWER brought Servowarm, they say its obselete

:(

I have lots of ideas to share with anyone who is CORGI registered but I dont advocate DIY gas work.

Why dont you get off your high horse, were only a gang of workies, who happen to have had a massive change in our work outlook, due to corgi,we all know its a money maker,my dad has been corgi reg since early 70's,his corgi no,was 0086 or something and then it was free and was upto you if you joined, now people get a corgi badge and think there some sort of bizzie, lads are only asking if we can help save them a few quid, its xmas,id rather see some kid get what they want for xmas than be ripped off,cos i didnt tell there dad,he needed a part, different if he was going to start piping his hob with hose pipe and jubilee clips

yes thought it might be gas valve but they almost never brake down, Iam in trade and corgi registered but not much experience with such an old boiler, did try to bridge out overheat stat but once again no luck !!!!

Says the guy who charges £270 for 2 hours work..

If it is the gas valve you can take the modureg/stat off the existing one and fit it onto new grey push button valve after removing the govenor

I made £270 for fitting new fan, then a pump and adding inhibator on 2 job's.i only charged £190 and £170 put i had a fan and inhibator,so whats the big deal

But did you not say fan only cost you £30 . so £160 for an hour and £110 an hour for fitting pump i would hate to see what you would charge if you where ripping people off.
Think about what point you where trying to make here

Thanks for help.I know many people who are very good plumbers but don't have "a badge" any more I agree we must be regulated but its just gone silly lately

lpg if you CAN get hold of servowarm valve it will be close on £250 as opposed to 55 for standard valve

As you are CORGI registered then I am surprised you dont call it by the proper name of thermocouple.

I suggest that you should measure the voltage on load from the thermocouple and see if its about 11-16 mV.

It should be measured either side of the o/h stat as these are often high resistance. A minimum of 11 mV is usually needed to hold on the magnetovalve.

Next use a new TC and connect it to the gas valve and see if it holds the GV on when heated with a gas torch. Have the main burner disabled while doing that!
