Ending inequality in UK

An interesting word for tax.

Sounds like Dum resents paying his share.
Jonny ..give over...that is a quantum leap of an ASSumption even for you.I am not rich ...In terms of the question Notch asked on fairness...

And yet you say that tax is robbery.
Ffs...forget the word rob then...Tax the rich so much they are not rich anymore and give it to the poor,,,no matter the reason for their poverty....Is that your vision of fair.. Because you cannot afford a Rolex,Rolls Royce,,no one can have one...Is that your """ fair""..A bloke who flogs his balls off all his life should be taxed to the hilt?

perhaps you are exaggerating for dramatic effect.

In some cases, paying any tax would be an improvement.

The ordinary working man or woman pays 0%/20%/40% or thereabouts in income tax, depending on banding and allowances.

How much less do you think billionaires ought to pay?

As I said...huge topic that can be debated forever and you zooming in being pedantic about the odd meaning of words and interpretation, never mind trying to see the bigger picture. As said your fair and my fair differ.

Exaggerating so that your argument is false.

Are you Boris Johnson?

We already have wealth redistribution.

From the poor to the rich.

But the poor will always be with us.

Even if you somehow divided the wealth of the country equally between the population, in a very short time the people who were wealthy beforehand would have most of the money again. The people who were originally poor would be poor again. How many times would you want to keep redistributing it?

Truth is, the poor aren't good at acquiring or retaining wealth. Obviously.

Socialism can never work, certainly not in a global economy.

Unfortunately in our 2 party system, we have this tribal politics, so anybody that doesnt agree with Tory neo liberalism must be a raving socialist.....which is clear in this thread.

the reality is that there is real poverty in this country and the safety net has been removed for people -that needs to be corrected, its about wanting a fairer society, not a socialist one.

I feel Corbyn and the Labour activists became involved in the politics of envy, that is wrong, if people become rich through hard work and ambition, then they should be allowed to keep wealth as long as they are taxed fairly.

Would the Tory supporters here agree that a fairer society is something this country should have?

Yes, agree. Would be interesting to see how new Labour leader approaches the divisions in his party.

if you somehow divided the wealth of the country equally between the population

I guess you'll have to find someone who advocates that, and ask them

have you ever met such a person?

I haven't.

Straw man.

You can't have socialism / communism / equality or whatever you want to call it, simply because we are not all equal. Some people are naturally disposed to hard work, leadership, energy, curiosity and discovery whilst others only want to stay in bed all day and be waited on.

John D and El Al are you happy to give away your surplus riches in this great reorganisation? Money you've earned by working? I'll send you both my bank details.

it's interesting that you think you are the person with the power to decide what we want, and also to decide that we can't have it.

In fact, of course, you have neither.
