My Dad has a 2004 Citroen Relay HDI Van 65,000 miles. When he accelerates hard the Engine Management Light comes on for a few seconds then goes off. My Dad thinks it's a choked fuel filter. Would a choked fuel filter cause these symptoms?

Also how do you change the clutch on the above van. He wants to change the clutch spring/summer time.

Thank you very much.

More likely to be an exhaust problem than a fuel filter one...hdi's are quite prone to this, but it doesn't always result in power loss. Anyway a fault code will be stored in the on board computer.
Why not get a quote from a specialist like Mr. Clutch or similar? Saves you an awful job - impossible without a hoist anyway.
John :)

the thing is with changing a clutch on this is that once it`s out, it`s out, and if you can`t get it back in, if you haven`t got the experience, no-one will want to come around to your house and fit it back in for you, and it`ll be hard to tow it anywhere with all the bottom arms out driveshafts off and engine not being supported, get a few quotes and pick the one you feel most comfortable with, not always the cheapest, and if the engine management light is coming on find a garage with diagnostic equiptment they will be able to read the fault codes and tell you whats going on.......

Update: Yesterday the van didn't start. The earth lead from the battery to the engine broke. When he put the key in the on position all he got was lights on the dash but the engine didn't turn over.

We were going to be taking people out that night so we got home and repaired it. I don't really know how he did it. I'm not a mechanical person, just very interested in cars. But he managed to get it fixed and we went out last night in it with no problems

I should mention he was a car mechanic for a number of years. Could that have caused Engine Management light to come on? Thanks for all the information so far.
