I’m just about to make jacket potatoes with beans and cheese for mine and Mrs Motties lunch but just like the cream tea conundrum, is it beans or cheese first?

Butter, cheese, beans and then more cheese on top (y)

Surely beans 1st then grated cheese on top.
Yes, of course. But instead of grated, try slices of a good melting cheese, like Emmental or Raclette, and slap it under the grill for a few minutes.

And don't forget the fried bacon lardons mixed into the beans.

So many decisions! I went with butter, beans, cheese in the end.

Woodland along the river bank is good foraging territory for wood sorrel and wild garlic.
I can find them in the back garden; especially wild garlic, despite my campaign to clear it all out a few hardy survivors cling on in the rockery. The flowers are nice, granted, but it can take over if uncontrolled and the smell is overpowering. Best rub ol' Br'er down with it before cooking to flavour the meat.

Beans are of Native American origin...

Potatoes originated in South America...

Traditional 'english cooking'?

...and tomatoes are from S.America but it took the Italian to make 'em zing when he spread 'em on a pizza.
How far back do you want to go?
A Medieval Christmas dinner in Merrye olde Englande would look mighty strange to some.

Plenty of little englanders (brexiteers?) seem to think turning back time is the way to go...

None of that imported 'foreign muck'!
