English Cooking

How far back do you want to go?
Ellal will go back to the year dot if he thinks he can score a point over anybody and get a vague mention of Brexit into the thread. He has nothing else in his life. Hates his Daddy and his 'doctor' sons don’t even want to live in the same country as him. Sad, pathetic little man.

I’m just about to make jacket potatoes with beans and cheese for mine and Mrs Motties lunch but just like the cream tea conundrum, is it beans or cheese first?
I think we're having jackets tonight, with Chilli and then pancakes to follow....

I quite like the contrast of temperatures with a cold filling on a jacket potato, e.g. tuna, sweetcorn & mayo, like wot you'd have in a sarnie.

Chilli? That’s Mexican. Pancakes? They’re Greek/Italian. Watch out or you'll have Ellal on your back!
From the official chili competition rulebook of the Chili Appreciation Society International *:

2. NO FILLERS IN CHILI - Beans, macaroni, rice, hominy, or other similar ingredients are not permitted

Which is "International" in the same American sense that makes the "World Series" a world-wide event.

Tonight I had sausages and creamy mash with a yorkie pudding, cavolo nero, roast onions and lashings of gravy.

You are such a bad loser...

But hey, you continue your trolling if it helps your mental health issues (y)

Back on topic then, since foods have been imported since trading first began, what is a traditional food whatever the country?

Ever heard of the spice trade routes which livened up the bland/rancid english food?

And indeed traditional foods have always crossed over 'national borders' all over the world...

MacDonalds is now as much traditional fare in england as is 'pie and mash' or 'fish and chips'!

I’ve lost nothing. You've lost quite a lot with your Brexit obsession. Try to get over your bitterness and accept that others can have different views to yourself. Try to keep on topic too - this is not a Brexit thread, it’s a food thead.

I still don't see what your cause for complaint is.
A question was asked "what constitutes 'English cooking', which led to a discussion on the various foods brought back from the Americas at the beginning of the 16th century which have contributed to the variety of diet we all enjoy today.
I think it's broadened the scope of the op to widen the topic under discussion.
