Hi all,
The break light switch on my 2004 Polo failed & I replaced it.
The break lights now work OK but the EPC light is still on.
Will the car fail the MOT on this alone?
Many thanks in advance, Joe

Whats is the EPC light? could you remove the bulb for the MOT then replace once passed.

By the way it was the brake light switch you replaced.

Hi there, The EPC light indicates if there is a problem with the breaks.
I think it stands for Engine Protection Control
Its not the engine management light.

i dont think it will matter at the mot, make sure all your brake lights work too as this can bring the dash light on

have you put a code reader on the car?

it might just be throwing a fault because of the switch?

this might work?

disconect the battery(MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RADIO CODE/S)

leave for about 10 mins the reconnect.

then see if the light comes back.

if it comes back then get the codes read.

Is the switch adjusted properly? I don't know about Polos but on other cars with a VW base eg Seat Alhambra, Skoda Octavia etc there are two switches on the brake pedal and both have to work otherwise you'll get a fault showing.

Thanks for the replys guys.
The car passed MOT despite the EPC light being on.
There are two separate switches which form the breake light switch.
One for connecting the +12v to the break light bulds and the other (when closed) sorta halves the fuel mixture (when the break pedal is pressed), via the control of the engine management unit, thus increasing the overall milage of the car, another wonderful idea dreamed up by some overpaid engineer to save us all lots of money in fuel costs

My MOT station said that from next year engine management lights that show a problem will be failures, but not currently.
