hi guys
builders are moving ahead steadily with our loft conversion and i want to sort tv aerial out when scaffold is still up and i was gonna run a new coax cable down from he chimney on the outside of the roof and into my downstairs front room like it was done before- cable does need replacing. but i thought is it advisable to put a tv aerial socket in the new loft and if so how is this done? do you run two cables down from the aerial? one into the loft and one down to downstairs. also if i need to join cable outside is this waterproof or does jointing need to be done indoors

thanks
jo

TV cables can only be split with a proper device. It can be a resistive or inductive splitter (one input and two outputs) these cause a loss to your signal. A better way is to feed your one cable from the aerial into the loft and use it as the input to a TV booster amplifier, these can give one to six outputs (you need two?). Each output then feeds one device. Trying to do it any other way will be disappointing. The joints in the cable which are outside will eventually leak water into the cable and cause a failure. Investing the time and money now will give you an installation that will last for thirty years!

many thanks frank,
TV booster amplifier, can you recommend where to buy one and do i just run the 'normal' coax cable from booster down to downstairs and yes just two outputs, downstairs and the new loft room, point taken on exterior jointing
cheers jo
