escort temp gauge

p reg car,temp gauge does not work,first hot day yesterday it starts to overheat,possibly because the fan didnt cut it either,engine is 1.8 zetec,ive had a quick squint under the bonnet and can only see one sensor in the thermostat housing with 2 wires,does anyone have any resistance values for this sensor i could check or know how these items are controlled?

The easiest way to check this is to bridge the connector in the wiring block. If the temperature guage then moves up to hot then the temperature switch is faulty and needs replacing.
