Hi there

Our engineered wood floors have started bulging and tenting after 18 months. Ruiler Chaves of Essence Flooring says they were laid without a necessary expansion gap, but he can fix the problem in about a day for about £300 (we are based in Camden, London) provided we have some spare wood, which we do.

Does this sound fair and has anyone on here dealt with this company before?

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Pictures would help us to agree exactly what your problem is......

BUT in the meanwhile.................

only the very foolish have ANY kind of work done based on only one quote!

You appear to live in London which makes it even worse! London is FULL of experts looking to empty your wallet before riding off into the sunset

Please ask everyone you know for recommendations and get them to quote you as well. You actually only need a fitter or an experienced joiner IF your problem is as described, if not>>>>>>>>>who knows!

I suspect your problems are down to poor fitting or floor preperation from one of London's horseriders

Hi there

Here are some pictures to illuminate the problem.

I would love some more quotes. I put this up on MyHammer but have only had one reply from a flooring specialist. As I suspect this floor was - as you say - poorly fitted by a general builder I would rather not get another general builder to try and fix it.

OK thanks - I will not comment on problem - I am a retired retailer but we have several fitters on here who will hopefully be along soon.....

re - quotes.......... Recommendations are always best - ask around....

or at the worst

Try ringing around local carpet shops and ask for a fitters number........assuming they sell wooden flooring they will have a fitter!

in the meanwhile please wait for one of the fitters - remember they work so it may take a day or so.

one question - have you tried contacting whomever you got this done by???? if it was a shop they ought to take your complaint seriously!!

It was fitted as part of a big refurbishment by a general building form, who we fell out with at the end of the job because it dragged on for week after week and they apparently lost interest. Even if they've had a enormous change of heart and are now interested in looking after their customers, I don't think I'd trust them to fix the problem, which was likely caused by the fact they didn't know what they were doing.

Annoying as I picked them because they were a bigger firm, rather than a couple of guys.

Cheers
