I recently installed the Virgin Tivo upgrade (V6) which I have connected to my hub by ethernet as that's the way to get the most stable signal. I already have an ethernet cable going straight from the hub into the TV which we use for Netflix and iPlayer. Is there any way to use just one ethernet cable with this setup? Can a cable be split and do the same job as two? WiFi is not stable enough for either, by the way.

No, I'm afraid you will need individual cables between the hub (router?) And the TV, or TiVo.
I suspect you have a couple of spare sockets on the hub, so I wouldn't worry.
Is there a particular reason you don't want any more cables from the hub?
