Euro Cylinder door locks but cant remove the key.

I shut the door, pull the door handle up turn the key and the door locks but then you cant remove the key, you have to turn back the key slightly (10mil) to get the key out but then that slight movement of the key backwards unlocks the door.

The key should continue forward, so the handle may not be going up sufficiently to allow the key to keep turning. Turning it backwards will unlock it. Try it with the door open, and see i it works.

So the problem was with the Back door so what ive done since the original post is swapped the Lock Cylinders from the back door with the perfectly working front door clinder and the problem is as follows ..
The back door which was the problem now has the good cylinder from the front door and the door locks as it should and Im able to remove the key whether the door is open or closed when locked. However, Now the front door which has the rear doors cylinder now locks when shut and am able to remove the key, but, when the door is open im able to lock it but unable to remove the key.
So knackered cylinder ?

You've worked it out well, but if the cylinder is of equal length, try turning it round first, and then replace if it still doesn't work.

Try not tightening the bolt fully that holds the cylinder, say 1 turn loose. That got one of mine working, until a better cylinder arrived!

The cylinder is not working correctly, buy a new one online about £10 for a std or up to £60 for a super secure one. Make sure you give the correct dimensions when you order because the little black bit that rotates to action the main door lock is not always in the centre. Door cylinders are described as 3 parts for example 35 10 45 will be a 90mm cylinder the 10 refers to the bit that rotates.

Except you can get caught out by the likes of Screwfix, where they'll ignore the centre piece, and give a figure of 40-50 instead of 35-10-45. It works out the same at the end of the day, so just beware of the differences.

Support your local locksmith - take the flaky cylinder into his shop and buy a new one, then you know it will be right, and you can discuss with him the options regarding levels of security.
