Hi,

I have booked for an EV charger install through Hive and it asked me to do a survey, one of the questions was to take a picture of the earthing on the incoming water pipe. My pipework seems to run either under the floor or between the walls (1995 build) the water meter and only accessible place is under my kitchen sink, I cant see any wiring near here and if I go through my older pictures pre and during the kitchen installation I cant see any earth cables around.

There is an earth on my incoming gas pipe which it also asked for evidence of. My question is, do I need both? How much does a retrofit install of the earth cost please? I read something about an earth rod, can this be installed anywhere outside?

TIA

You do need a connection to your incoming water pipe - unless it is a plastic pipe as it runs underground. Being plastic is quite possible in a 1995 build.

No, you cannot fit an earth rod instead of connecting to the metal water pipe.
