Even the best firms get it wrong....

No names, no locations.

This is on a 12 month old site. This is above a false ceiling.

Aswell as this, there is numberous other gaps in the trunk, and I lost cound of how many circular lids are missing in the service voids. Some circ boxes even have cables hanging out where they have not been pulled in fully.

Why don't trades tell the CoW's what they want !

Or maybe they did and were ignored- what's the blue and grey pipes running through the Cat 5- fibre, water, gas

It looks like a classic m & e where the main contactor just got the 'm' and the other trades lost lids, rooted feeds any which way and ran off as soon as they could.

Funnily enough, no intumiscent anything in that hole, but in the majority of the others I have come across, there are. Some runs are filled with expanding foam which is a PITA when running new cables.

:?

I believe that this could be a case of where 'apprentices' were replaced by 'electricians mates' then onto 'electrical labourers' over the years.
The level of skill and interest has fallen. :(
The man hours they must save where I would have manufactured sets/bends,bracketry in trunking, uni etc with pride, by nowdays 'grabbing' onto anything thats there and lashing T&E on basket tray that can be installed by anyone with an ounce of common sense.

And all this whilst Electricians are being sh*fted on rates by the JIB, or PartP costs , Building Control; or do you opt for infrequent agency work, or working for peanuts for the local firm ?????
Is it all bl**dy worth it ???
I always thought that it's considered good manners to cut a small piece of lid etc to cover the firewall etc, (and to have cables pulled into the intended enclosure.

"Gas" in hep! I hope not!

Having similar fun with a firm at the moment - who think it is fine to run singles outside a conduit/trunking
