Evil Microbore.

Hi Chris,
sorry I thought this was just an example. Thanks very much for that. I'll try to be more alert next time I promise ;-)

Thats why I said it because all the clients cover their towel rails with towels and wonder why they dont get the 400 watts heating their room

A typical bathroom needs about 1000 watts to be nice and warm and most towel rails are about 400 watts without towels and 100 watts or less with.

I never recommend a towel rail on its own.

We have a Wickes £99 white towel rail covered in towels as the only heat source in our bathroom and its fine (room was single glazed until recently).

However the bathroom door stays open when unoccupied, it's near the top of the stairs and there's a 5000BTU double panel rad at the bottom of the stairs. So perhaps it's not really the only heat source!

His house may be fine in the bathroom!

Where I am at the moment the heating has been off for the last week and I am sitting in shorts and a T-shirt and feeling fine too. Oh yes, its in the UK too. Maybe its all the hot air I produce.

Must go now to the bed with a single blanket, that will be heaven for me after spending the afternoon strugling with a naughty old cylinder.

PS What about London John? I have to chose my days at Telford!

Gentlemen,
this is getting silly. I can't thank you all enough for all your help. It has been really excellent. You have made this Spanish lady a very happy girl. Anyway you've all been so helpful I thought I would ask one last question :D Thanks to you guys, I decided to stick with the 8mm :D Looks like less trouble to me and for me  I called a plumber (recommended from my workplace) who came round last evening. He asked me if I would be so kind as to drain the system down before he arrives next week. I agreed it looks easy enough and I don't need the radiators. I though of some problems when he had gone though.

1) How do I stop the system filling up again while I'm draining it? I don't want to turn the water off for all these hours.
2) I'm worried about filling it up. Some of the radiators have been painted over and I can not turn the bleed key, how will I take away the air when I fill it.
3) Can I still use my hot water when the system is drained.

I know these are stupid questions but this heating system is a total mystery to me.

Thanks once more.

Kind regards

Maria.

1 tie the ballvalve up

2 pot luck try and clean the paint off

3 if you have an immersion heater yes if not no

Hi thanks for the reply.

1) The one in the loft I guess? A huge thing, like an childs pond.

2) Poo

3) I have a big tank in the cuboard, I can set the water seperatly from the heating but not the other way around. It runs from the same gas boiler not electric.

Regards

Maria.

1) There should be a smaller tank up there, this is the one you want.
Drain some water off from the system then tie up the balltap in the tank that you hear filling up

2) I use the edge of a small screwdriver to clean these out. It can be fiddly and time consuming, you just have to persevere

3) Water will come out of your hot tap [unless you have a single feed and vent cylinder which is not so common these days] and once you have used the hot water that is stored in it you will have no hot water.

Dont tie it too hard .... you might kink the shaft  or worse still the ball could drop off!!
If you're lucky you could find a stopcock up there. Just twist the knob  clockwise to stop the flow.
