I have a Potterton Suprima boiler which is about 1 year old, all ok there, but I also have a microbore system where the pipes go in one end of the rad, see picture...

My issue is how do I connect onto a system like this to add another 4 radiators when I extend my house in a few months?

I believe you need to find a manifold and connect new pipes to there, which if this is right this is a tough one as I don't know where it is in the house!

Also if the manifold doesn't have any connections how do I connect the new rads and in what sequence?

Any help is much appreciated as not many people seem to know about this.

Thanks

you can branch off the 15mm pipe that feeds the 1 manifold if there is only 1 , and connect the 15mm pipe to a new manifold they are normally located under the floor boards get yourself a metal detector.

Thanks Bob, yeah the pipework is well shoddy throughout the whole house, looks like they didn't measure where the rads would be and took pot luck!

Anyhow with regard to the manifold, you mean if there is only 1 x manifold I could T it off and run 15mm pipe straight off into the new extension and therefore have 15mm pipe throughout the new extension rather than microbore, which I would prefer anyhow.

Could this cause a pumping issue to get around the new extension etc? (2 storey, 4 rooms and 4 rads?

Cheers

Yes, you would need to get back to a 22mm flow and return, or run each rad seperately from another manifold

have you got any tips on finding the manifold?

I got a metal detector but will pick up anything.

I know it must be upstairs as solid floors downstairs, should the pipe work lead in a certain way?

all roads lead to the interchange???

What does a manifold looklike, or how big???

Thanks

You will have an S or Y plan so look for the valve (airing cupboard) and follow the pipes into the floor, manifold would be somewhere central to the house e.g. landing.

The flow and return manifolds, are a length of pipe with a load of brances to each rad

Roll the carpet back and you can usually see what boards have been taken up.

might be a lot of things POOR aint one of them

Hi

so the manifold is at the end of the 22mm pipe, that makes it a bit easier to find just not sure which direction as runs from right to left all the way across top of house, but pipes from downstairs seem to run up walls too, so follow them?

So is the rule one pipe per radiator off the manifold?, or can I replace the manifold with a bigger one?

all I know is microbore sucks and is not straight forward!

Can I also mount new rads with pipe either end instead of both at one end?

Any other suggestions I could do to get heat into my extension?

Thanks

Could have more than one set of manifolds, but you can add more branches or tee off another circuit from before the manifolds.

so how many manifolds needed for 4 new rads? just one?

and can I run it with normal pipe instead of microbore?

Also if I can T off before all the other pipes wouldn't this possibly lose pressure in the exisitng rads?

Cheers
