How can I kill existing glue prior to laying ceramic tiles in a bathroom. I'm told that I can put sawdust, cement, or anything powdery prior to laying the adhesive is this right?

Walls or floor?... ...I wouldn't put anything powdery onto it. If you can, try to remove it with a scraper. Try putting something on it, to soften it and make it easier to remove. What type of glue was it anyway, and what was it sticking down/up? Sorry for the questions.

It was sticking down some thin tiles plastic I think.
But i take it it has to be removed
Many thanks

I would try and remove the worst of it, even warming it up a little with a hairdryer might help.. just a thought.
