thanks for that but why wont the expansion vessel refill even when i open up the water in valve on the filling loop the gauge just stays at zero

Some have two valves. a pic perhaps.

Could be the gauge is faulty as well.

A tad more info about the boiler and system may help.

forget expansion vessel

you are to increase the system pressure different animal

if nothing is happening as dia says make sure there are not 2 taps on the loop

can you hear water running when you open the valve :?:

did you check the prv pipe outside :?:

you may have a drain tap left open

boiler isolating valves may be closed

a pic would help as already stated as would boiler make etc

fill loop View media item 11214

its a seperate expansion vessel not in the boiler
the gauge works as i turned the relief valve and it zeroed out
and im getting water to the vessel but it just wont fill up
and all the pipes around the zone valves are getting warm but im thinking that because there aint enough water in the system thats why i have no central heating

how do you know you are getting water into the system :?:

if gauge is showing 1.2 cold theres enough water in the system

if you have opened the prv check it aint leaking

i have taken the filling loop pipe of and open the filling tap and the water is getting that far but not into the vessel and the gauge still says zero and im not seeing any other leaks??

Why do I get the feeling the OP is trying to fill the expansion vessel with water.

Have you played with the Schraedor valve on the vessel, and let the air out.

fitted a new filling loop and job done so thanks to you all for pointing me in the right direction but now i have another problem where 2 of the rads are cold after bleeding and the other 3 are nice and hot any ideas
