Exporting PME.

So if a bathroom has been plumbed in plastic and has copper pipes coming up to the taps, should this be supplementary bonded? I always thought it still should but reading this has kind of contradicted that.. :confused:

No, if there is adequate plastic pipework to provide isolaton so the taps, radiator etc are not extraneous conductive parts then they do not need to be included in the supplementary bonding.
 
Numerical spark.. I suggested that to him half-jokingly, but the problem of the undersized cpc is still an issue.

Ban... the cpc is only an issue when exporting PME. As the IET guy explained, there is a fire risk unless there is a "full-size" bonding conductor connected as, if the neutral goes open-circuit, the submain cpc (in this case 2.5mm²) will not be sufficiently large enough to do its job and will subsequently burn out.
 
I'm reading it as the only extraneous conductive part which needs bonding in your location is a piece of copper pipework which is only a short length. If this copper pipework was replaced with poly pipe then there are then no extraneous conductive parts which require bonding.
This means the CPC of the circuit supplying the board is only doing the job of a CPC, not a MEB so therefore doesn't need to be sized as a MEB.

There are still 2 issues being conflated here.

If a bonding conductor is needed because some kind of voodoo makes that length of copper pipe extraneous, then indeed 2.5mm² is not adequate.

If it's only a cpc, then surely it is either adequate or not in all circumstances - whatever risks there are of open-circuit neutrals would be there if that cable was supplying a shower, a cooker, a hot-tub or a woodworking machine, no? How does the potential for high cpc currents change when what's on the other end of the cable is a CU?
