Sorry if this sounds a simple question!

I'm putting up some new light fittings and have a problem where the existing wires coming from the ceiling are not being long enough to reach the N/E/L connections on the new fitting. The N/E/L connections on the new fitting are fixed to the fitting itself. I'm happy about what wires go where. But, can I, extend the reach of the wires from the ceiling by attaching them to separate terminal blocks for N/E/L, and then putting additional (single) wires from the N/E/L terminal blocks to the N/E/L of the new light fitting. If this is okay, then what kind of wire do I need to purchase?

Many thanks in advance :)

Yes rob extending the cables is fine. However i would advise that you extend the cables inside the light fitting and not by connecting the cables behind the light fitting and shoving the connection block into the ceiling as i have seen many times before. It just means you have access to the connection if needed as sometimes its hard to get the connector block out of the ceiling without causing some damamge.
