Hi,

I've just got myself an aquarium and its going to need about 8 sockets with a max power draw of around 600 watts, most the time more like 300 watts though...

My question: Is it safe to create an extension lead with 8 sockets on it and have it running from a spur that I fitted when decorating last year?

Also should I have it connected to an RCD as water is obviously involved?

Thanks,

Mike

All sockets under 20A fitted since June 2008 should be RCD protected. So long as all outputs are through a single 13A fuse you can have as many as you like and you can buy 8 output extension leads

Next question then...

Does anyone know where i can find at least 8 socket extension that has a lead of at least 3.5 Metres?

:?:

I think you will struggle to find 3.5 meters on leads of the type I show. these from Maplin click on picture are fitted with 2 meters as are most but you should be able to view the unit to see if longer wire can be fitted and they do 2 way units with 5 meters of flex see here
